Are Really Hot Chilis A Form of Terrorism?

You say "Chef," I say "terrorist." I know the above question seems just a little eccentric. But the answer is just shy of bizarre. The BBC News service has reported that a 9 lb pot of chillis cooking at a Thai restaurant sparked terror fears, sending specialist crews into action. Some employees were warned of chemical attacks, and told to evacuate the building when the fumes of the peppers -- which are purposefully burnt in the recipe to temper them -- began to overtake the building -- and panic most everyone in the vicinity.

Here is the Nam Prik Pao recipe listed on the BBC Page, for all culinary terror fans.

- Heat garlic and shallots in oil and remove to a bowl
- Place red chillies in the pan with some oil and fry until they go dark in colour. Then set aside
- Mix shrimp paste with the rest of the ingredients and pound in a mortar and pestle
- Return the mixture to the heat until it becomes a thick dark coloured paste

You Want Fries With That?

Though it does involve the strategic acquisition of certain oil reserves, you will notice that at no time does this recipe call for rocket propelled grenades, Jihad training in Pakistan, or automatic weapon recoil management protocols.

Nevertheless, this nearly-lethal foodstuff clearly has potential. Maybe, just maybe (if we supersize it) a good bowl of Nam Prik Pao is just what we need to take down Osama. Just a thought.
